I need to get into some amateur downhill racing. I’d suck and probably gain many many injuries but it looks so much fun.

Pad up, it’s worth it. I don’t race, but it’s fun as hell chasing my really fast buddies.

Neko Mullaly did this as well last year and got a podium. But to win by a few hundredths without a chain is astonishing. Can’t wait to do more downhill!

theres a place in NH i’ve been to that rents bikes like that and has a ski lift to the top of the mountain. Its a blast but you should know what your doing. I saw a guy try to drop off a pier to the ground but he didn;t lift the front as he went over the edge and the front just dropped causing him to go face first int he dirt. he didn;t get back up, had to be carted off in an ambulance. that aside, its a lot of fun. you can do stuff you would never think possible

If I see a good deal on an appropriate bike (I only have a non suspension hybrid) I might have to.

Find a bike shop doing a demo day, it’s the best way to see what you like.

I’d definitely start small. I’ve done some mild trails in the past on junk bikes with a couple mild jumps and stuff. Never anything too exciting though, since I couldnt afford a bike that wouldnt fall apart. I might see if theres a rental place around here like that.

I thought the same thing when I moved to Washington. Luckily there are several beginner classes. I highly recommend trying it. My first 4 races in the beginner category (Cat3) went like this: 8th, 5th, 1st, 1st. Even during the first place races I only raced as fast as I wanted to. My times would have landed me on the podium in the next category. But I guarantee that regardless of how you finish you will have fun. And that’s all that matters.
